    Description

Fantasy Flight's Perikles, a Game of Politics and War in Classical Greece
    Fantasy Flight's
    Perikles
is their 2006 game of politics in ancient Greece. It runs 2-3 hours to play for 3-5 players.
Boardgamegeek describes it thus: "Perikles is a game from Martin Wallace. Players assume the role of a noble family seeking to become the leader of one or more of 6 ancient Greek city-states. The game plays out in two phases: In the first, players vie for area control in each of the six states, which end in elections. Players who win the election in each state can then "control" that state's army. In the second phase, players use cards to move their armies to attack or defend one of seven battles (each tied to a state, and you can't attack your own!) that are up for grabs that round. The gameplay mechanic is straightforward, with elements drawn from other Euro-style wargames (especially Martin Wallace's Struggle of Empires). What makes Perikles unique is the smooth integration of the area control/voting phase and the military phase."
From the back of the box: "Together the Greek City States had defeated the greatest power in the world, the Persians. Now, though, pride and envy have led them to fight amongst themselves in what we know today as the Peloponnesian War. Each player represents a powerful Greek family with political influence spread across the six major city states of ancient Greece. Players strive to become leaders of these cities, thus taking control of their military forces. With these forces players will aim to win glory on the battlefield."
Production values are typical of Fantasy Flight, i.e. quite high, with lots of gloss, color and back-printing. Included in the game are:
    1 17" x 22" full-color mounted game board
1 23-page full-color rule book containing the rules in English, French and German (i.e. about 8 pages of rules)
6 un-punched full-color back-printed counter sheets containing the 5 players' units, Persian unis and information markers, for a total of 210 un-punched counters (including 14 blanks) of various sizes
Several zipper-lock bags for parts storage
1 zipper-lock bag containing 150 wooden blocks - 4 black cylinders and little influence cubes in 6 colors. During a brief perusal of the rules I saw no reference to the cylinders but I'm sure there's a reason for them.

1 game box with cardstock insert
All components are in new condition beyond the shrink wrap having been removed from the game box. The late owner smoked; I'm a non-smoker and
    think
I detect a faint smell but it may be my imagination. But you should be aware. Play it!
